Adeline "Shorty" D. Dietz

Adeline “Shorty” D. Dietz, age 92 of Montgomery passed away on August 4, 2026, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, MN with her loving family by her side.

Born on December 21, 1933, at her family home in St Patrick, MN she was the daughter of William and Adeline (Sticha) Bisek. She graduated from New Prague High School and later attended Beauty School.

On February 6, 1954, she was married to Leander Dietz at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City, IA. Together, they settled on the Dietz family farm and continued the family's proud farming legacy. Although they were not able to have children of their own, they were blessed to adopt three wonderful children. They also opened their hearts and home to foster children, sharing their love and care with many.

Throughout the years, they built a life centered around farming. They raised award-winning performance horses that earned Top Ten honors, along with dairy and beef cattle, pigs, and crops. Shorty was a devoted wife whose love and support were the heart of their home. She took great pride in preparing hearty meals for her family and for the many hands who helped on the farm, making sure no one ever left the table hungry. The farm was more than a place of work; it was the heart of their family and community. It hosted countless family reunions, holiday gatherings, and community events such as snowmobile races and the annual trail ride.

After Lee’s passing in 1991, Shorty moved into town and embraced a new chapter of life. She enjoyed time with friends through the Bag Ladies, coffee gatherings, and Sunday breakfasts, while also finding joy in gardening and canning.

Above all things, Shorty’s faith was the foundation of her life, and she took great pride in passing those values on to future generations. Her family was her greatest joy, and she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren fiercely, never missing an opportunity to tell them. Treasured memories included playing Trouble and Euchre, birthday cards mailed with perfect timing , and every goodbye ending with a hug, a kiss on the cheek, and an “I love you.”

Shorty will forever be remembered for her generosity, selflessness, contagious laughter, and for proudly being an overachiever. She gave her best in everything she did and always found a way to go above and beyond for those she loved.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jill (Mark) Swanson and David (Londa) Dietz; grandchildren, Brandon (Cassie) Swanson, Dyllon (Shelby Nelson) Dietz, Travis (Kylie) Swanson, Chis (Sara) Dietz, and Melissa (Nick) Cross; great grandchildren, Teddy, Tucker, Ryder, Blaize, Emmett, Myla, and two on the way; along with many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee in 1991; son, Tony in 1990, and brother, Ralph (Gladys) Bisek.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 21, 2026, in Montgomery, MN; Father Timmothy Sandquist will officiate. Shorty’s family will greet guests at a visitation held from 9:30 -11:00 AM at the church, prior to the service. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery, MN.
