David Anthony Krenik

April 22, 1952 — August 30, 2025

Le Center

David Anthony Krenik, 73, of Le Center, MN died on August 30, 2025 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 22, 1952, at the St. Peter Hospital, David was the son of Norbert and Teresa (Schumacher) Krenik. He attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School and graduated from Mc Kinley High School in Le Center in 1970. He attended Winona State College, graduating in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. In 1988, he graduated from Mankato State College with his master’s degree. In his early years, he held a variety of jobs, including positions at Green Giant, Le Center Crane Service, and the Hoffman Center, as well as working as a carpenter. From 1982 to 2011, he worked as a teacher in the Cleveland School District, where he taught physical education, health, coached football and softball, and served as the Athletic Director. Dave also served as the Executive Director of the Southern Minny Conference.

On August 4, 1978, he married Mary Parkin at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Together, they made their home in Le Center, where they raised their family. Dave deeply valued his family and treasured every moment he spent with them, especially with his beloved grandchildren. Football was a significant part of Dave’s life. He took great pride in coaching the Cleveland Clippers to five conference championships, six section finals, and a state appearance in 2007. In recognition of his leadership, he was named Conference Coach of the Year and had the honor of coaching the Minnesota All-State Football Team in 2008. One of his most cherished honors came in 2021 when the Cleveland football field was renamed Dave Krenik Field. Outside of coaching, Dave was a passionate college football fan and could often be found cheering on his favorite teams, the Minnesota Gophers and the Winona State Warriors. He was also his daughters' biggest fan, often volunteering as a coach for many of their sports over the years. He also took immense joy in being present for and supporting his grandchildren’s various activities. He also enjoyed golfing, bicycling, reading, gardening, and traveling—visiting all 50 states and parts of Europe. He was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knight’s of Columbus.

Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary; daughters, Sarah (Brad) Adams of Le Center and Laura Krenik of Chanhassen; two grandchildren, Ellie and Blake Adams; sisters, Kathy (Mike) Minkler and Bette Traxler; brothers, Mike, Brian, Andy (Karen), and Norby (Carolyn); sister-in-law, Rose Krenik; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Terry and Bill; and sister-in-law, Belinda Krenik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Le Center, MN; Father Chris Shofner will officiate. Dave's family will greet guests at a visitation on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Le Center Funeral Home from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM along with two hours prior to the service at the church. Dave will be laid to rest at a later date.
