Edward Joseph Edel Jr.

EDWARD JOSEPH EDEL, JR. age 90 of Kilkenny, passed away peacefully at his home on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Edward was born in Shieldsville Township on September 30, 1934 to Edward Sr. and Georgiana (David) Edel. He attended a country school near Shieldsville in Rice County. On May 10, 1955, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Bernice Spindler, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna. The couple was blessed with six children whom together they raised on their farm in rural Kilkenny. They were life-long members of the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville.

What brought Ed the most joy was spending time with his family on the farm and learning about what everyone was doing with their lives. Ed loved old-time music, dancing, listening and playing the concertina with the Concertina Czech Club of New Prague. He worked hard all his life and enjoyed dairy and crop farming for many years. He was a wonderful father and will be deeply missed.

Ed is survived by four daughters, Loretta (Pat) Bull, Linda (Dale) Botten, Gale (Dan) Walechka, and Sharon (Rodney) Bales; two sons, Gary (Lori) Edel and Clarence Edel; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Angeline Stoldt; brothers Milo (Helen) Edel, Joseph (Rita) Edel, James (Judy) Edel, Raymond (Kathy) Edel, Ronald (Jan) Edel; brother-in-law Robert DeGonda; and many nieces; nephews; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Georgiana; his wife of 50 years, Bernice; and a sister, Mary Jane DeGonda.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church. Following a luncheon, interment will take place at Trebon Cemetery.
