GAY LAVERNE SERRANO, age 87, died at Northwest Medical Hospital in Margate, Florida on December 3, 2025.
Gay was born in Glasgow, Montana on June 1, 1938, to parents Dr. Frederick and Bernice (Carkeet) Knierim. Following her initial schooling she attended the Montana State University in Bozeman where she met the light of her life, Francisco Serrano. After a short courtship they were married and became world travelers as Francisco finished his medical schooling. They had many children abroad and more in Minnesota before settling in Cleveland Minnesota and Le Center Minnesota where they found their ‘home’. Gay played organ for the St. Henry Catholic Church for many years and it was a parish that was very dear to her heart.
Gay is survived by eight children; 29 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three brothers, David (Kari), Matt (Patricia) George (Nyla) and their families; and lifelong friends including ‘The Lindas’, Roxy, Darien, and Beady. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two children, Loretta and Christian; and one brother, Howard.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at St. Henry Catholic Church in rural Le Sueur with Rev. Michael Barsness as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Henry Catholic Church in memory of Gay Serrano.
