Harlan Earl “Doc” Meyer, age 98, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, MN.
Born on March 10, 1927, in Derrynane Township in Le Sueur County, Harlan was the son of Fred and Louise (Schultz) Meyer. He spent his early childhood on a farm just north of Lexington before his family relocated to Elysian, MN. After graduating from Waterville High School in 1945, Harlan served in the army for two years before later becoming part of the second graduating class of the University of Minnesota’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
In 1952, he married Katherine “Trixie” Schrall in Wayzata, MN. The couple settled on an acreage in Le Center, where Harlan established his own veterinary practice, proudly serving the surrounding community and earning the nickname “Doc.” It was there that they raised their family and the place he fondly called home for the rest of his life.
He was a man deeply committed to his community, serving 22 years on the school board and 6 years on the church council. He was an active member of the Le Center Sportsmen’s Club, the Le Center Community Club, the Masonic Lodge, and the Le Center American Legion. Each of the latter two recently honored him for 70 years of continuous membership.
Harlan had an upbeat, positive personality and was known for always having a smile on his face. With a deep love for the outdoors, he enjoyed spending time on his farm and the nature reserve he proudly shared with others. Each spring, he looked forward to the tradition of making maple syrup.
He had a remarkable talent for building almost anything, from woodworking projects to metal fabrication. At the age of 82, he even built a 1901 Oldsmobile replica – a project he had dreamed of completing for 49 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his 12 nephews and one niece, along with many other relatives and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; wife, Katherine “Trixie”; son, Charles “Chuck”; and daughter, Gail.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center, MN with Pastor Heath Queen officiating. Visitation will take place at the church two hours prior to the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Le Center Honor Guard. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date.
