John Ballman, 90 of Le Center, died Monday, December 2, 2013 at Central Health Care in Le Center. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church at German Lake. Funeral services will also be on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church at German Lake at 12:00 pm.
John was born on April 20, 1923 in Cordova Township to John and Lena (Vollmer) Ballman. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1943. He served in the US Army and was a member of the American Legion for 67 years.
He farmed in Cordova Township and operated his own sawmill. John worked to help restore the Geldner Sawmill and he enjoyed woodworking. He was united in marriage to Lorraine (Ewest) Ballman on November 16, 1973 and was a member of the German Lake Lutheran Church.
John is survived by wife, Lorraine Ballman of Le Center; daughter, Tammy and Paul Schley of Le Center; 3 grandchildren, Scott and Amy Schley, Chad and Kit Schley and Jennifer and Martin Juarez; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Bahl of Winona, Mabel Hallack of Le Center; sister-in-law, Magdalene Ballman of Le Center and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond, Gordon and Leonard; sister, Beatrice Herrick.
Military Honors provided by the Le Center Honor Guard.
