SANDRA “SANDY” MARIE GILHOUSEN, age 79 of Montgomery, died on the evening of Friday, May 23, 2025 at Traditions of Montgomery.
Sandy was born in New Prague on January 9, 1946, to parents Kenneth and Josephine “Sis” (Thomes) Gilhousen. She attended school in Montgomery and graduated with the class of 1964. While she was in school she began working in the school kitchen and she continued in that profession for fifty years until her retirement in 2014. A lifelong resident of Montgomery, Sandy was always quick to volunteer her time and talents around town. She was a member of Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where she read for the students, distributed communion, was a lector, and was a member of the church choir. She was also on the Kolacky Days committee, was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Red Hat Society, volunteered at Hilltop and at the library in Montgomery, and enjoyed serving with the “Bag Ladies” making mats for the homeless.
Sandy is survived by two siblings, Carol (Andrew) Cormack of Apple Valley and Tom (Cindy) Gilhousen of Montgomery; and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until the time of the Mass at the church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
